Why Buy a Pedigree Dog?
January 27th, 2009
Last year I saw a documentary about pedigree dogs. Basically it was all about how they are inbred and therefore have lots of health problems. For instance, the british bull dog has an un-naturally large head compared to the size of its body. The result is that they cannot have a natural birth and need to hace a C-section. There are other dogs too that have been cruelly bred such as that King Charles spaniel have a brain problem in that their brain is often too big for the size of their head. Basically the brain is being crushed. Doesn’t sound so pleasant does it? You can read more about it here.
Personally I have a rescued dog who is a mixture. We think that she’s part collie part red setter. Who knows. All we know is that’s she’s lived a very healthy and happy life. She’s now about 14 years old and looks great. I don’t know why people feel the need to spend lots of money buying a pedigree.
